Things are getting back to normal here after last week’s General Election. We got a great result here in Donegal North East; Dr James McDaid was returned as a Dáil deputy, and Niall Blaney was re-elected to give Fianna Fail two of the three seats, on 50.4% of the vote. Cecilia Keaveney lost her seat, […]

At this meeting, there where two motions (one from Cllr Jimmy Harte, one from Cllr Neil Clarke) calling on the council to keep the old centre […]

A quick update on the new Letterkenny Leisure Centre, under construction at Sallaghraine. We had a tour there last week, with press and politicians shown around. It’s all set to be opened in time for Riverdance at the end of the month.
I’ve added some photos to Flickr- you can see them all here.

It was around this time last year that I visited St Eunan’s College to talk to a class of CSPE students about the roles and responsibilities of a Town Councillor. I was delighted to be asked back again last week.
This year’s class where similar to last year’s, in that they knew what they wanted to […]

Last night’s council meeting saw us once again discussing the issue of the Leisure Centre on the High Road, and whether or not it can remain open once we open the new Leisure Complex at Sallaghagraine.
Cllr Jimmy Harte put forward the motion “That this council retain the Leisure Centre at the High Road”. This motion […]

Last night’s Council meeting saw us pass our Budget for 2007, and set the new Commercial Rate.
In the end, we passed a rate increase of 4%, which is either slighly above, slightly below or in line with inflation, depending on which metric you use. Last year’s rise, of 3%, was below most inflationary estimates by […]

Last night, I attended a public meeting in the Orchard Inn which discussed the proposed sale of Letterkenny Leisure Centre to fund the development of the new Sports Complex at Sallaghagraine.
The meeting was well attended, with appox 30 - 50 people and a handful of politicians.
I have discussed this issue at length here before, and […]

A few quick updates to the website, and some past items.
The weather, for the most part, has been great recently.
Further to some of my earlier posts on Fianna Fail organising in the North, it has been announced that Ogra Fianna Fail will be organising in the Universities and Colleges in the six counties in the […]
