Election Rundown

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Things are getting back to normal here after last week’s General Election. We got a great result here in Donegal North East; Dr James McDaid was returned as a Dáil deputy, and Niall Blaney was re-elected to give Fianna Fail two of the three seats, on 50.4% of the vote. Cecilia Keaveney lost her seat, […]

A quick note to highlight the public open days taking place at the new Sports Centre at Sallaghraine. The Centre will be open for public viewing throughout on tomorrow, Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th of May from 12 to 7pm.
I visited the centre earlier today to see how […]

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

As has been the case at many recent council meetings, the meeting of Monday May 14th featured a long discussion about the old and new Leisure Centres in Letterkenny. At this meeting, there where two motions (one from Cllr Jimmy Harte, one from Cllr Neil Clarke) calling on the council to keep the old centre […]

Update- May 14th 2007

Monday, May 14th, 2007

A quick mid-campaign update on a few things.
The 2007 Mayor’s Ball took place on Friday past in the Clanree Hotel. Congratulations to Cllr Ciaran Brogan for an excellent evening; I’m sure a huge sum was raised for this year’s charity, Help Us Dry The Tears.
Campaigning continues for the 2007 General Election. I’m backing Dr James […]

A quick update on the new Letterkenny Leisure Centre, under construction at Sallaghraine. We had a tour there last week, with press and politicians shown around. It’s all set to be opened in time for Riverdance at the end of the month.
I’ve added some photos to Flickr- you can see them all here.

Comments are open […]

CSPE at St Eunan’s College, 2007

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

It was around this time last year that I visited St Eunan’s College to talk to a class of CSPE students about the roles and responsibilities of a Town Councillor. I was delighted to be asked back again last week.
This year’s class where similar to last year’s, in that they knew what they wanted to […]

Dr James McDaid’s Valentine’s Banquet

Monday, February 19th, 2007

Busy weekend on the political front! Friday night saw the official launch event for Dr James McDaid’s campaign for the upcoming General Election.
The evening was an informal Dinner Dance in the Mount Errigal. There was a great crowd in attendance, from across the constituency and from all walks of life.
Best wishes to Jimmy over […]

Update, Jan 29th 2007

Monday, January 29th, 2007

I’ve had the week-to-end-all-weeks over the past 8 days. Web server crashed last Sunday, taking a few dozens sites and few hundred email accounts with it *. I’ve been working on it literally around the clock since, and things are finally looking up. So that’s why things have been quiet around here! (This site is […]

Dr James McDaid announces retirement

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

Local media today is buzzing with the report that Dr James Mc Daid has announced his retirement from politics at the next election. It’s on the front of today’s Donegal People’s Press (their website is here but hasn’t been updated yet), this Highland Radio article, a piece on BreakingNews.ie and I’m sure more places to […]
