Safer Letterkenny

November 27th, 2007

A major public meeting, workshop and forum will take place tomorrow evening (Wednesday Nov 28th, at 7pm) at the Regional Cultural Centre (behind An Grianan Theatre, on the Port Road) to discuss the formulation of a “Safer Community Strategy” for Letterkenny.

What is this all about? The Joint Policing Committee (JPC) are working on a wide-ranging, long term strategy for Community Policing, and Community involvement in policing. We want to get local people, residents associations, community groups and anyone else with a local interest to have their say on where we should be going with Policing in Letterkenny.

There are a number of local initiatives in place, including Neighbourhood Watch schemes, Community Gardai, the Estate Gardai programme and LYIT Campus Watch, which have had a great impact on their respective targets. To further develop Community Policing in the Town, we want to get people on the ground to work with us to identify the key areas that we need to address.

This is your opportunity to contribute to a vital development in Policing in Letterkenny. The meeting will be attended by the members of the Joint Policing Committee (Councillors, Oireachtas members and Community Representatives), Senior Gardai, Council officials and people from throughout the town and region.

The Safer Letterkenny strategy has been inspired by the successful Safer Ballymun strategy.

Update: Highland Radio interview ahead of the meeting:
