Safer Letterkenny: Public Meeting, 28 Nov 2007
November 29th, 2007A big thank you to everyone who turned up for our meeting this evening at the Regional Cultural Centre. I am absolutely delighted with how the meeting went; we had a great crowd of around 40 taking part in the meeting, all of whom got an opportunity to contribute there views on community safety and policing in Letterkenny.
Thanks to Superintendent Vincent O’Brien and all the Gardai who came, and to Anne Marie Conlon, Ciaran Martin and Frances Friel from the Town and County Council for their efforts in organising and running the meeting and workshop.
The meeting sought to give the people of the town an opportunity to contribute their views on policing in the Town, on the problems that we face and where we should be focussing our resources in the future. Many known problems were discussed, like road safety and public order, but there were a few new items brought up that hadn’t been discussed before by the Committee.
The JPC will now follow up on the public meeting by working with the various state agencies and groups, like the HSE and the Donegal Road Safety Working Group, to develop a framework to address the issues highlighted.
Again, thanks to everyone who came out and took part in a very worthwhile meeting.
