Letterkenny Development Plan Variation
November 20th, 2007Letterkenny rezoning approved for limited development
Letterkenny Town Council has approved the rezoning of a parcel of land in the Scribbley, Drumnahoagh and Leck areas of the town, but major retail developments will not be allowed. As part of a plan for the area, developer Laurence Blake is expected to build a bridge over the Swilly and develop a number of access roads, and councillors have agreed to alter the Development Plan to open up the area south of the River Swilly.
This was the conclusion of an issue I first mentioned here back in March. Donegal County Council’s Planning Department had proposed a variation to the Letterkenny & Environs Development Plan, 2003 - 2009, which involved lands owned by a group that involved my father. As such, I took absolutely no part in any meetings, debates, workshops, discussions or anything else related to the project. I declared my connection at every meeting where this was discussed, and left the council chamber every time. It has been acknowledged in writing to the Council Planning Department, The Town Clerk, The County Manager and the County Ethics Registrar.
As such, I won’t be commenting on the variation as originally proposed by the Planners, their changed proposal or the discussion in the Chamber. I’ll link to all the press reports online about the variation, to ensure there is a permanent record of it online.
The variation as originally proposed (map and report) can be viewed on the Letterkenny Town Council website here
