Blog Action Day
October 15th, 2007Today is Blog Action Day, a day for bloggers to draw attention to Environmental issues.
In Letterkenny Town Council, we take environmental issues very seriously:
- We are currently taking part in the European Energy Award, which sees the council assessing all our activities (construction, local services, vehicles, travel etc) and making improvements to their environmental impact.
- We are developing a programme to promote Water Conservation and Energy Conservation (taptips.ie is a great website to this effect, from the Dublin local authorities).
- Our new sports centre makes use of a wood-pellet burner for the heating, rather than an oil-fired system.
- We are at planning stage to build a flagship development of sustainable housing (low carbon-footprints, well insulated, efficient use of water etc).
- Letterkenny won the National Award in this year’s Tidy Towns awards, our best ever result.
These are just some of the current initiatives that have been introduced in the term of the current council. All parties are committed to further improving our environmental standing.
On a side note, today sees the official launch of AllAboutEnergy.ie, a new Irish website. I’ve had a quick look at it, and the site is packed with a load of information on how to make better use of your energy.
