Alan Doherty is currently on Today FM, speaking to Matt Cooper about his ongoing medical treatment which will see him become the first person in the world born without a chin to undergo a groundbreaking medical procedure to have one constructed.

Alan has been truly inspirational; he is constantly upbeat, in good form, and has taken on a tough challenge with real courage and dignity. The response of the local community has been fantastic; no week passes without a fund-raising event taking place, many of them organised by Alan’s schoolmates from Errigal College (formerly Letterkenny Vocational School).

Alan returns to the USA this week for the second in a serious of operations. His treatment involves taking a piece of his hip-bone and transplanting it to his chin, in various stages. The treatment has received much attention from around the world, from the USA to India. I linked to some of the sources on this post back in June.

Update: As reported by the Belfast Telegraph (among others), Alan was due to be a guest on Friday night’s Late Late show, before being bumped for the daughter of notorious criminal Martin Cahill. This is the second time that Alan has been booked for the show, and the removed.
