Al Gore wins Nobel Peace Prize
October 12th, 2007I was pleasantly surprised this morning to read that Al Gore, and the International Panel on Climate Change, have been awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for “for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change”
Below is a video from the excellent ted.com where Al runs through some of his Inconvenient Truth talk. This was the first time I saw Gore’s talk, and followed it up with the full DVD. It’s extremely compelling, and has had huge impact.
Other interesting talks among the huge variety on ted.com include Bjorn Lumborg (pragmatic environmentalism), Ken Robinson (educational reform), Larry Brilliant (preventing pandemics) and Ze Frank (comedy).

Al Gore, congratulations on winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Now it is time to announce your wish to become America’s president, take your seat in the White House, and be the leader we have all been waiting for to move beyond the corrupt system of Empire and towards Earth community. Kudos to the Nobel Committee for realizing that sustainability is peace.

With all due respect to Mr Gore, and all the questions initially raised on how does this affect the future of Nobel Prize in general, now from the time distance and perspective it still does not seem right.
