Update Sept 30th 2007
September 30th, 2007UPDATE: Congratulations to St. Eunans’s, who were victorious today.
A few quick updates:
- It’s County Final day again. St Eunan’s are taking part in their third final in a row, against a Glenswilly side which has only been playing senior football for a few years. The atmosphere around town has been electric. Highland Radio will have full coverage of the final from 4pm. A live stream is available on their website. Best of luck to the team, and all involved.
- I attended a number of meetings this week. In particular, we held a meeting with Road Design to discuss the provision of roads around the town, including the new proposed link from the Dry Arch Roundabout to the Ballyraine/Magherenan area and through to the business park road. All councillors have been calling for the selection of a route which would stay as far away from the existing homes in the area (notably Thorndale). This has been accepted by the road design office, who have done extensive research on the two proposed routes and are now set to recommend the route preferred by councillors and residents in the area.
- Cllr Gerry McMonagle and I met with Supt Vincent O’Brien to discuss policing, and the operation of the Joint Policing Committee. We have agreed some proposals for developing the committee, and working closely with the public. I’ll have more info on this in the coming weeks here.
- This week is “freshers week” at Letterkenny IT. Wednesday was the Clubs & Socs day, and I was out with the Ogra Fianna Fail members helping with the recruitment of new members. Over 70 people signed up to join Ogra, which we’re delighted with. This week also saw Ogra FF take their first steps in recruiting at the UU colleges and Queens in Belfast, something I’ve been lobbying for and working on for many years now. Congratulations to all involved, as it went really well. UU Magee responded particularly well.
- The PoliticsInIreland website has been revamped. The site lets you easily follow discussion about all elements of Irish politics online, by party, constituency and individual politicians.
- The proposals for redeveloping the Jurys Hotel site in Ballsbridge are online. More from Mountbrook.
