Letterkenny- Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre
September 10th, 2007Letterkenny has just been named “Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre” in the 2007 Tidy Towns awards, beating towns in our category like Ennis, Kilkenny, Malahide and Clontarf.
This has taken years of work, and is a great reward for all that has been done by those in the Tidy Towns Committee, the Town Council workers and the wider community both in business and in the various estates throughout the town. Letterkenny Town Council takes litter control, prevention and enforcement very seriously, the schools work very hard on programmes like the Green Schools, and Jim McCormick and his team in the Tidy Towns work year-round to make sure Letterkenny stays a step ahead.
Letterkenny faired very well in overall terms. We came in one point ahead of Glenties, which has often been Donegal’s tidiest town. We were one point behind Westport, and three points behind the overall winner of Aughrim, Co Wicklow.
Congratulations to all involved. I hope this will be one of many national titles in the coming years!
