CCTV Update- April 25th 2007
April 25th, 2007A quick update on the plans for Letterkenny’s Community-Based CCTV programme.
This week, the various groups involved in the project met with the contractor who was succesful in the recent tendering process. Access Video Projects, based in the North, have experience building similar (and much larger) systems around the country, and bring great expertise to the project. The tendering was very competitive, and our independent selection process highlighted AVP as the best tender.
The Gardai, Town Council and Chamber of Commerce representatives met this week to discuss the next steps for the programme. All the camera sites have been selected, the contractors are ready to start placing orders for equipment and begin building the system. I hope we’ll see the contractors at work in the town at some stage in the next two months, with the system then going to testing and becoming operational around the late summer.
I’m delighted with how this programme has been going. The Chamber of Commerce have managed it excellently; indeed, (now former) Chamber CEO Joanne Sweeney’s work on the application has been highlighted by Pobal as among the best of all the applications. I’d also like to thank the Town Clerk and Town Engineer, who have put great commitment into the project to ensure it becomes a reality. For the Gardai, Crime Prevention Officer Paul Wallace has brought a great knowledge of where the initial cameras need to be sighted from his ongoing work throughout the town.
