Irish Blog Awards 2007
March 3rd, 2007Good luck to everyone in tonight’s Irish Blog Awards, taking place in the Alexander Hotel in Dublin. I had hoped to attend, but work commitments mean I won’t be able to make it.
I was a judge this year, for the Best Personal Blog and Best Newcomer. It was an interesting task; I was aware of all the blogs that were shortlisted, and they all had their individual strengths. I won’t say what scores I gave, but I was as impartial as I could be.
Congratulations again to Damien Mulley. Damien’s put an unbelievable amount of work into this event, as he does to so much else. He helped organise the first BarCamp in Ireland, the Irish Election conference, he’s chairman of IrelandOffline. His blog is one of the most read in Ireland. Really, he’s the glue that holds Irish blogging together.
There’s about 400 people expected to attend the event tonight, and about 100 blogs are shortlisted for the awards. Good luck to everyone heading down, and to all those nominated.
Update: Suzy Byrne has all the winners on her blog. Congratulations to beaut.ie, winner of Best Newcomer, and RedMum, winner of Best Personal blog. It seems that the winner of “Best Contribution” - Bernie Goldbach - passed his award on to Damien Mulley. Fair played to Bernie - he’s done an awful lot for Irish blogging and technology in General through his work in Tipperary Institute and was a deserving winner. Damien was excluded from the shortlist as show organiser.

I stand by what I said earlier, even though Suzy has edited her post to remove her mention of my comments.
I stand by what I said; blogging in Ireland would not be what it now is if it wheren’t for the outstanding effort put in by people like Bernie and Damien. I extend my congratulations to Bernie for winning the award, and to Damien Mulley, for deserving the award.
I repeat what I said earlier; Damien Mulley is the glue that holds Irish blogging together.

And one final point; I’m really shocked that Blogorrah didn’t win anything. I can’t think of any other Irish blog that has garnered so much media attention this year.

Damien deserves more than a single award and the two standing ovations he received from the largest assembly of Irish bloggers underscores that point.

Something very weird happening with me and wordpress at the moment - I’m losing bits of posts, and then at times editing of posts then makes them go private for some reason.
So for clarification I did not intentionally edit the reference I made to your post out of my post - and now I forget what I said… All this because I was having spellchecking problems with firefox, now hopefully resolved with an upgrade to version 2 whatever.

Suzie,
Apologies for the tone of my comment above. It was the end of a very long night at work so my head wasn’t really in gear at all.
I’ll leave the comment there as a reminder that it’s always best to leave comments for the morning!
