Search for Darren McGinley called off
December 20th, 2006Highland Radio News is reporting that Gardai have called off the search for Glencolumcille student, Darren McGinely, who has been missing since late Thursday / early Friday of last week, following the discovery of a body in the Swilly near Ballyraine Halls student accommodation.
CCTV footage was found today showing Darren leaving the complex around 3:30am, leading Gardai to focus the search today on the area around the River Swilly and Port Bridge. While the body has not yet been identified, Gardai have said that they are finishing the search.
My thoughts are with the McGinley family at this terrible time. It’s impossible to imagine what they are going through. Last night’s Budget meeting was concluded by Cllr Ciaran Brogan, Letterkenny Town Mayor, expressing his concern and that of the Council, and extending our hopes to the family. It seems that the worst result has come true.
