Update, October 3rd 2006

October 3rd, 2006

A few quick updates.

First, a disclosure. b4 Innovations, the company I work for (and am a director of) is one of a number of local web design companies who have been invited to submit a quote for the development of websites for Letterkenny, Bundoran and Ballyshannon Town Councils. The process is being handled and run by Donegal County Council. I don’t know if we’ll definitely be submitting a quotation (workload is very heavy at the minute), but I’m posting here as a step in ensuring everything is fully above board should we quote. There are strict rules and regulations in place regarding Councillors having contracts with the local authority. I have always acted in line with (and exceeded) the highest regulations in the ethical handbook, on potential personal, family and business conflicts of interest. This issue is no different.

Secondly, I’ll be taking part in the upcoming conference “Blogging the Irish Election”, which takes place in Dublin this Saturday. I’ll be involved in a roundtable discussion on Irish politicians using the Internet, with Labour Councillor Dominic Hannigan and Green Party TD Ciaran Cuffe. It looks set to be a very interesting event, and is receiving wide-spread media coverage (I must thank Suzy Byrne for giving me a great mention in this weeks Sunday Tribune). The conference is being organised by Suzy together with Mick Fealty of the excellent Slugger O’Toole, Cian O’Flaherty of IrishElection.com and Damien Mulley, a leading online lobbyist.

Finally, my earlier post on the Polestar has quickly become one of the most-visited pages on the site. The interest in the piece has been fantastic, with the majority of opinion in favour of the sculpture. If you have any thoughts on it, please feel free to leave a comment on the Polestar page.
