E-Voting: Today FM Interview
October 23rd, 2006I’ve just done an interview on Today FM about E-Voting, coming from my piece on this website and the article in yesterday’s Sunday Times.
Unfortunately, the previous item ran over, so my time was cut back to about two minutes, but I hope I highlighted the important issues. You can listen to the interview by clicking the play button on the box below:

If this is your first time to this site, please check out the article I wrote here. If you are interested in learning more about e-voting, I’d recommend these other articles online:

- Simon McGarr
- Wij vertrouwen stemcomputers niet / We Don’t Trust Electronic Voting
- Wired Magazine, USA : “Building a Better Voting Machine”
I had hoped to cover a few more points when I was on air, but didn’t get time. Here’s what I missed:
- I’m being painted as something of a rebel. Fianna Fail is a party with a strong tradition of internal debate - as evidenced in the run up to the Smoking Ban, the change in the Groceries Order and with many Health issues. There is a massive constituency of people across Ireland who are unhappy about this situation, and as a local representative I have a responsibility to speak out on issues like this.
- I would not have been on Today FM today were it not for this blog/website. I was one of a number of councillors (and not the only FF member) who discussed E-Voting on Highland Radio in Donegal last week. I posted here after that interview, which was picked up by the Sunday Times, and then by Today FM. Any politician who is not blogging should take notice!
- I hoped to use the radio interview to highlight the new Online Road Safety campaign that has been started among Irish bloggers today. If you haven’t heard about it, please read this post and make your contribution.
