Blogging the Election Conference
October 7th, 2006I’m in Dublin today at the Blogging the Election conference, where we are discussing ways in which the Internet will impact on the Political process in Ireland, with particular reference to the next General Election (expected in June 2007).
I shared a platform earlier with Ciaran Cuffe TD of the Green Party and Labout Party Councillor Dominic Hannigan, where we discussed our experiences as Politicians who blog* about our roles as Public Representatives. You can see details on our talks on a number of sites, including Slugger, Elly’s Blog and other sites which you can find here.
The conference is also being addressed by Guido Fawkes, the UK’s leading political blogger and a source of many major stories in the UK press recently, Richard Delevan of the Sunday Tribune, Simon McGarr of McGarr Solicitors and Antoin O’Lachtain of Digital Rights Ireland
I’ve discussed what I think about Politicians, Politics and the Internet here before. I think today’s event will lead to a further growth in the number of Irish politicians online, and the quality of debate online.
There are also a number of photos from the event on the net, mainly on Redmum’s flickr account.
* A blog is a website, like this one, which is updated on a regular basis, and allows an open discussion through the comments on the items it posts.

You should be commended for sticking to your seven minute allocation during the Saturday blogging conference. Listeners can count the seconds for themselves in the podcast made of your talk:
