So near….
September 4th, 2006…and yet so far
Letterkenny has once again received a Gold Medal in this year’s Tidy Towns awards, taking place today. We came second in our category, one point (287 v 288) behind Ennis in Co Clare. This year’s overall winner was Westport, with 295.
Congratulations must go to Ennis and particularly Westport, which is always fantastically well presented. On our own side, I’d like to once again congratulate Jim McCormick and all in the local TIdy Towns committee, and all the council staff involved.
We take the Tidy Towns very seriously in Letterkenny. The town has grown so much in recent years that it would have been easy to let the appearance and tidiness slip, but volunteers and council employees have ensured that didn’t happen. Visitors to major events such as the Donegal International Rally, and the Fleadh Cheoil, often remark on the excellent condition of the town.
Congratulations also to Glenties. Not content with beating St Eunan’s in last years GAA County Championship, they have once again been declared Donegal’s Tidiest Town, and were also one point short of winning their own category.
