Update, August 1st 2006
August 1st, 2006A few quick updates to the website, and some past items.
- The weather, for the most part, has been great recently.
- Further to some of my earlier posts on Fianna Fail organising in the North, it has been announced that Ogra Fianna Fail will be organising in the Universities and Colleges in the six counties in the new academic year. More info here
- The inaugural Letterkenny Comedy Festival was a huge success. I caught a couple of the shows, which were all well attended and went very well. Some of the acts were fantastic, particularly acts like PJ Gallagher and Danny Bhoy that I hadn’t seen perform before. Congrats to Daithi, Eamon and all involved.
- The 2006 Letterkenny Reunion starts on Sunday. More info from their website. Please pass this on to anyone you think might be interested as this is always a great event.
- Party Politics in this part of the world has gone a bit mad. The Blaney Party no longer exists, and Jimmy Harte, son of life-long Fine Gael rep Paddy Harte and himself an FG councillor for many years, will stand in the next General Election as an Independent. I’ll reserve comment on these happenings as, like most FF members, I know no more than what is happening in the papers. More info from Highland Radio, The Letterkenny Post, The Donegal News (Derry People), and Donegal Democrat/Donegal People’s Press.
- Finally, it’s all systems go for the Fleadh. Last year’s event was fantastic; I was caught right in the middle between my role as Mayor and as a member of the Committee. I’ll never forget the feeling of standing in the middle of the Main Street on the Saturday night, and not being able to see where the crowd ended. This year looks set to be bigger again. I just hope the weather is better!
