Letterkeny Reunion & Fleadh 2006
July 18th, 2006Last night was a busy evening, seeing the press launches of both the 2006 Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann and the Letterkenny Reunion.
Last year’s Fleadh Cheoil was a huge success, bringing tens of thousands of people to the town for a great weekend of Irish culture. I have no doubt that this year’s event will be even bigger and better than before. Paddy Tunney and his team have been working hard since last year’s event finished to ensure the lessons were learned, and to repeat the successes.
The Letterkenny Reunion, while a very different event, is very important for Letterkenny. This event, which takes place every three years, focusses on welcoming home the emmigrants who left Letterkenny over the years back to the town for a week of craic. This year’s event looks set to be the biggest ever.
Both these events, together with the Donegal International Rally and the upcoming Comedy Festival, have been organised by strong, hard-working local committees (with varying degrees of sponsorship and funding), and will make huge contributions to the economy of the town this summer.
This summer looks set to be a great one for Letterkenny. Let’s just hope the weather stays this good!
