I’ve just returned from the official launch of the 2005 Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann, which will take place in Letterkenny from August 22nd to 29th. Other speakers included Cllr Dessie Larkin, Senator Labhras O’Murchu and John O’Donohue TD, Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism. A transcript of my speech is available here on this website.

The Fleadh Cheoil will be the biggest single event ever to take place in Letterkenny, and it is a great honour to be involved with it. I serve on the organisation committee, as IT Officer. As such, I’ve witnessed first hand the effort that has gone into making the Fleadh happen. I talk about that more in my speech.

Letterkenny will benefit from the Fleadh for years to come, both from tourism and business points of view. The Fleadh will see up to 250,000 people coming to the town; a huge amount when compared to other events. The Fleadh is widely regarded as the largest Cultural Festival in Europe.

The Fleadh takes place in about five weeks time. I would encourage everyone to take a look at their website and see what the Fleadh will have to offer.
