Damien Blake welcomes announcement of funding for Civic Amenity Sites
April 7th, 2004Damien Blake, Fianna Fail Candidate for Letterkenny Town Council and Donegal County Council, today welcomed the announcement of funding of over €750,000 for the development of a new state-of-the-art Civic Amenity Site to provide recycling facilities locally in Letterkenny.
“Local access to high quality recycling facilities has been lacking for some time in this area. This announcement means we will soon be able to recycle a wide variety of waste locally. This will benefit the local environment, and with the upcoming introduction of ‘pay-by-weight’ bin charges on January 1st 2005 easy access to recycling will help householders significantly reduce their refuse charges.
“This funding has come from the Environment Fund established to distribute money received from the ‘Plastic Bag Levy’. It allows Donegal County Council and Letterkenny Town Council to move towards full implementation of the Donegal Waste Management Plan. This important step, along with the excellent work being done in schools throughout the county, will enable families and householders in Donegal to make a significant reduction in waste going to landfill
The Civic Amenity Site will provide access to Recycling facilities for a wide range of waste materials, including glass bottles, paper, cans and cardboard packaging.
Funding was also announced for the development of similar Civic Amenity Sites in Stranorlar (€510,000) and Ballintra (€345,000)
